A local Indonesian driving license (SIM Nasional) is valid for short-term visits in all ASEAN countries (Thailand, the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore).
Foreigners holding a KITAP (permanent stay permit) and a local SIM license are also eligible to apply for an international driving permit (IDP) of the same category, valid for three years and recognized in 92 countries.
Renewal of the IDP can only be done no earlier than 14 days before the expiration date.
The process of obtaining an international driving permit is quite simple — it is done exclusively online through the Indonesian police (Korlantas Polri) website.
The system operates Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays) from 08:00 to 15:00.
Fees:
- 250,000 IDR – for issuing a new international license
- 225,000 IDR – for renewing an existing one
- Additional fees: 15,000 IDR for packaging, 10,000 IDR administrative fee, plus postage costs depending on the delivery address.
Important: Only IDPs issued in Indonesia can be renewed.
Application Procedure:
To apply, first create an account on the official website.
Then, fill out the application form and upload the required documents: a recent photograph, a digital signature, your KITAP, passport, and a local Indonesian driving license for the requested category.
If you are renewing, you can instead upload a previously issued Indonesian international driving permit.
All documents must be submitted either as scans or as photos taken against a white background, in JPG/JPEG format, with a maximum file size of 500 KB. Sample document formats are available on the website.
Photo requirements:
- Color photo, upper body visible up to the second shirt button
- Clothing or hijab must not be white
- No glasses or contact lenses
- Eyes looking straight into the camera
- No teeth visible
- Choose the delivery method:
- Either pick up the permit in person at the Korlantas Polri International License Service Office,
- Or have it delivered to your home address.
- Receive a virtual account number on the website and a billing email.
- Make the payment.
- After payment, you will receive a confirmation email with your application number.
- Track your application status online via the provided link.
If the data is incomplete or incorrect, the application will be canceled, and the paid amount will be refunded.
If everything is correct, the international driving permit will be issued and either mailed to the specified address or made available for pickup at the Korlantas Polri office in Jakarta.
Processing usually takes 5–10 working days from the date of payment, plus additional time for shipping if you selected mail delivery.
