The laser show at Jatiluwih Rice Terraces in Bali has been canceled indefinitely following an unexpected inspection by the civil police of Tabanan Regency.
The first test-run of the laser show took place on December 1, 2024, with the main goal of attracting more tourists to the UNESCO-listed rice terraces. The official grand opening, initially planned for February 15, was first postponed and then completely canceled after the police visit. The reason cited by Bali police for the cancellation was concerns raised by local villagers.
During the trial period, the laser show ran from 6 PM to 8 PM. Jatiluwih Rice Terrace manager, John Purna, assured that the show would not disturb local residents or affect agriculture. He even offered compensation in case of any negative impact on crop yields.
However, Tabanan Police Chief I Gede Sukadana emphasized that the show was halted due to discomfort among the villagers.
“We acted in response to reports from citizens, as the laser lights caused dissatisfaction,” Sukadana stated.
This is not the only recent development at Jatiluwih. A helipad for VIP tourists is expected to open this month, located near the rice terraces.
Jatiluwih remains one of Bali’s most popular attractions, with many tourists opting for day trips that combine a visit to the rice terraces with other famous sites in Tabanan, such as Tanah Lot Temple.
