Kempinski Hosts Art Exhibition by Made Wianta

An exhibition titled Gallery of Art: Wianta & Legacy, dedicated to Made Wianta, has opened in the Pendopo lobby of The Apurva Kempinski Bali in Nusa Dua. The hotel states that such projects are launched so that guests can become acquainted with Balinese and Indonesian art and see the works of an artist known far beyond the island.

A key part of the exhibition is Mandala: the series is presented in full and open to the public for the first time. Eleven works were selected for this exhibition and displayed in the lobby.
The Mandala series is described as a contemporary artistic interpretation of Balinese cosmology. Specifically, the artist drew from the idea of pangider-ider — the nine directions and their associated patrons in Balinese tradition — and translated this into his visual language: lines, dots, geometry, and spatial work.
The opening featured a public conversation with the artist's wife Intan Kirana Wianta and his two daughters (Buratwangi and Sanjivani), as well as a performance of Balinese contemporary choreography by Ayu Ananta, founder of Kerta Art Studio.
Made Wianta was born on December 20, 1949, in the village of Apuan (Baturiti district, Tabanan). He started with traditional Balinese music (karawitan), then studied fine arts in Denpasar and continued his education in Yogyakarta. Wianta worked not only as a painter; he is described as an artist with a wide range – from installations and sculpture to performance and texts.
