Indonesia Opens Its Doors: Visa-Free Entry for Peruvian Residents

August 12, 2025, marked a historic day for Peruvian-Indonesian relations. Following Brazil and Turkey, the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Institutions of Indonesia included the Republic of Peru in the list of visa-free countries, completing the process of expanding access for the Latin American region.

This decision reflects Indonesia's growing interest in strengthening ties with Latin American partners.

The key factor was the principle of reciprocity: Peru had already granted Indonesian citizens visa-free entry. Now Peruvians receive similar privileges for traveling to Indonesia.

For the Peruvian business community, this opens up new opportunities. Simplifying entry is expected to stimulate the development of tourist flows between the countries, short-term business contacts, investment cooperation, and cultural exchanges between the two states.

With the inclusion of Peru, the total number of visa-free countries reached 17. The list now covers almost all regions of the world: from ASEAN neighbors to Turkey. The complete list of countries: Brunei Darussalam, Philippines, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, East Timor, Suriname, Colombia, Hong Kong, Brazil, Turkey, Peru, and holders of certain types of Singapore residence permits.

The new policy came into effect immediately after the publication of the decree, allowing Peruvian citizens to plan trips to Indonesia without the need for visas. For citizens of other countries, electronic visas on arrival are available. They can be obtained online in advance to avoid queues upon arrival.
