Most visitors came from Malaysia, accounting for almost a quarter of the total. Next are Japan and South Korea, each contributing over 15% of tourists. China rounds out the top four (11.57%). Among Europeans, the British lead (8.40%), and there is also a noticeable share from Singapore (3.47%) and Australia (1.30%). At the same time, tourists from the USA and India have decreased, with a drop of 6.76% and 4.13%, respectively.
From January to August, Indonesia has already hosted over 10 million visitors, which is 10.38% higher than last year. Bali contributed most significantly, as usual. Over eight months, more than 4.6 million people visited, and by the end of the year, around 7 million are expected. This surpasses the pre-COVID 2019 figures (6.24 million) and last year's results (6.3 million).
"If the situation remains unchanged, Bali will set a new record," noted the head of the island's Tourism Office, I Wayan Sumardjaya.
Tourism growth is directly reflected in the economy: in the second quarter of 2025, Bali's GDP grew by 5.95% and exceeded the country's average (5.12%). "This is a positive signal for the residents. Our goal is to maintain the pace and develop a sustainable economy," Sumardjaya emphasized.
He added that the future of tourism lies in unique experiences: guests increasingly choose not only beaches and views but also gastronomy, creative projects, and experiences that evoke emotions.
Deputy Minister of Tourism for Marketing Ni Made Ayu Martini recalled that the country has an ambitious goal to attract 14-15 million foreign tourists by the end of the year. By July, 8.3 million had already arrived in Indonesia.
"According to surveys, 71% of tourists from ASEAN countries travel for food. This is an excellent opportunity for us," said Martini, highlighting the importance of projects like Wonderful Indonesia Gourmet, which promote the country as a gastronomic destination. According to her, the focus is not only on the number of guests but also on ensuring tourists stay longer and spend more.
