At Goa Gajah Temple near Ubud, authorities are looking for a man suspected of stealing money from a donation box. The incident was caught on CCTV, and the video later spread on social media. The footage shows the man taking money from the sesari donation box—offerings that visitors leave at the temple.

Initial estimates suggest around IDR 1.8 million is missing. The box contained not only Indonesian rupiah but also foreign currency.
Gianyar police confirmed that the case is already under investigation. Officers have inspected the temple, are reviewing the CCTV footage, and are interviewing witnesses. The suspect’s identity has not yet been established.
Police also asked temples and tourist sites to keep a closer eye on areas where visitors leave donations and to make greater use of cameras.
Goa Gajah is one of Bali’s well-known temple and archaeological complexes, about five kilometres from Ubud.
