Foreigner in Bali Beaten After Armed Carjacking Attempt!

In Bali, a foreigner attempted to hijack a car. Threatening the driver with a knife, he demanded the keys. This incident occurred right in the middle of a traffic jam on Goa Gajah Road in Gianyar.
The suspect turned out to be a 39-year-old Russian citizen, M.K. Several videos of the incident quickly went viral on social media.
Taking advantage of the traffic jam, the perpetrator climbed into the car and tried to take it from an Indonesian citizen. The driver immediately pulled out the keys and called for help. Witnesses didn’t just passively record videos for their TikToks; they grabbed sticks and other handy objects and began beating the would-be carjacker.
Despite M.K.'s attempts to fend off the crowd with a knife, the arriving police officers essentially saved him from further beatings. The suspect is currently being interrogated at the Gianyar police department.
In Indonesia, such acts of vigilante justice are quite common—locals are not particularly fond of calling the police and often prefer to explain directly and forcefully to the offender that they are in the wrong before handing them over to the authorities.
I Made Wartha, a representative of the Gianyar police, reported that 10 officers were dispatched to make the arrest. They took the beaten suspect to the police station. The police are investigating the suspect's condition at the time of the incident, including whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. They are also in communication with immigration services and the Russian embassy.
