Foreigner Deported for Running Illegal Bike Rental Business

A year and a half ago, an enterprising British national decided to start a motorbike rental business on Nusa Penida. Things were going great, but unexpectedly, it turned out that running a business in Indonesia on a tourist visa wasnt the best idea. As a result, the Briton, identified by the initials KSM, was deported and blacklisted, while the immigration authorities reported the closure of yet another illegal business.
KSM rented out motorbikes to foreign tourists for 150,000 IDR per day. On average, he served three to four clients daily and used social media to promote his business.
His activities caused discontent among local legal business owners, who filed a complaint against him with the immigration authorities. After monitoring and gathering evidence, officials conducted an operation and detained him on January 25. Before deportation, he was held in an immigration detention center.
So, if you have a brilliant business idea that you want to bring to life in Bali, opening a legally registered company would be a wise plan.
This cautionary tale, however, didnt mark the end of deportations. Three Indian nationals, identified by the initials P, SK, and DK, were also sent home. They were engaged in online fraud, scamming their fellow countrymen. A search of their premises revealed fake documents, including counterfeit Canadian visa stamps.
In addition to the Indians, a Ghanaian and a Canadian were also deported for overstaying their visas.
Authorities emphasize that foreigner control in Bali will only tighten, and visa violations will not go unpunished.
