Flights to Bali Resume After Flores Volcano Eruption

Despite the recent eruption of the Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano on Flores Island, flights to Bali have normalized. According to Ngurah Rai Airport, departures and arrivals are operating as usual.
The eruption occurred on June 17, 2025, at 5:35 PM local time. The volcano spewed a column of ash over 11 kilometers high. The cloud covered part of Flores Island, accompanied by hot clouds moving in all directions. The eruption lasted almost 7 minutes.
Indonesia declared the highest — level four — danger level. The Geology Agency extended the evacuation zone from 6 to 7 kilometers around the crater, and in the southwest and northeast directions, up to 8 kilometers.
Due to the ash cloud, several Jetstar flights from Australia to Bali and the Singapore-Bali flight were canceled on the morning of June 18. Passengers were offered refunds or rebooking. A Jetstar statement said: "We continue to monitor the situation closely. We will contact passengers directly in case of any changes. We recommend checking flight status on Jetstar.com before traveling to the airport. Safety remains our top priority."
A total of 13 international arrivals were canceled: three from Melbourne, two from Brisbane, and one each from Singapore, Adelaide, Sydney, Perth, Darwin, Shanghai, Auckland, and Delhi. Two domestic flights Labuan Bajo — Bali also did not arrive. There were 17 canceled departures: 12 international (to Singapore, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney, Pudong, Auckland, and Delhi) and 5 domestic (four to Labuan Bajo and one to Semarang).
Three airports on Flores are temporarily closed — in Maumere, Bajawa, and Ende. Six Wings Air flights were canceled: Kupang — Ende, Bajawa — Kupang, and Maumere — Kupang (in both directions).
Tourists planning trips to Bali, Komodo, or Flores are advised to keep updated with airlines. Visitors to Flores Island are encouraged to stay calm, follow authorities' instructions, and wear masks in areas with high volcanic ash pollution.
