On the evening of August 1st and the night of August 2nd, there were two strong eruptions at the Lewotobi-Laki-Laki volcano (Flores Island). At 8:48 PM and 1:05 AM Central Indonesian Time, ash columns rose first to 10 km, then to 18 km.

The Indonesian Center for Volcanology declared the highest, fourth level of danger. Residents and tourists are advised to keep at least 6 km away from the crater (7 km in the southwest-northeast sector) and be mindful of the risk of mudflows after heavy rains.
Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport felt the effects of the nighttime ash emission from Lewotobi-Laki-Laki almost immediately: according to the morning report from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), 24 flights had to be adjusted — some were canceled, and others were postponed pending clarification of the situation.
By noon on August 2nd, six domestic departures were delayed: three Batik Air flights to Labuan Bajo, one Wings Air flight to Tambolaka, and two Lion Air flights to Kupang. Another AirAsia plane to Labuan Bajo was on 'standby.' International routes remained on schedule without disruptions.
According to the airport's general manager Ahmad Syauqi Shahab, the runway is clear, but services continue to monitor the air for ash around the clock. Passengers are advised to check the status of their flight before traveling: if the wind changes the direction of the ash plume, new delays are possible.
