In the village of Kelan on Bali, mornings now pass almost silently: fishermen's boats glide through the water without the usual roar of engines and clouds of exhaust. This has been made possible by the Desa Energi Berdikari («Energy Independent Village») ecological program launched by Pertamina International Shipping.

As part of the KeNaLi («Sustainable Fishing Families») initiative, local residents received electric boat motors powered by solar panels. In the first stage, the project provided five boats and ten batteries to the KUB Tanjung Sari cooperative, as well as installed solar panels for homes and public buildings.
During the trials, emissions were reduced by 62 kilograms of CO₂ and energy efficiency increased by 78% compared to conventional engines.
The program also includes an educational component — Door-to-Door Education: home learning on ecology, waste sorting, mangrove protection, and sustainable tourism development. Currently, 161 families are participating in the project: they recycle about 183 kilograms of waste weekly, and the village is developing mangrove eco-tourism as a new source of income.
The initiative is supported by the environmental organization Divers Clean Action and is part of Pertamina's strategy for a "green" transition and implementation of ESG principles — ecology, social responsibility, and governance.
