A wastewater pipe linked to FINNS Beach Club has been sealed at Berawa Beach after treated water from the venue was found to be flowing into the ocean.
The pipe was filled with cement on August 2, and the beach club was issued a 14-day warning.
Local residents first complained about an unpleasant smell coming from the drainage system on July 31. The same day, beachgoers collected water samples and shared videos online. On August 1, officials from the Badung Environmental Agency inspected the area.
The following day, a joint team involving police and village authorities traced the drainage system along Jalan Pantai Berawa and identified the pipe. FINNS confirmed that the water was coming from its wastewater treatment facility.
Under the terms of its permit, treated wastewater must be used for irrigating plants or discharged into a soakaway system, rather than released into public drainage. The warning will be followed by a six-month monitoring period. If the violation is not addressed, authorities may suspend the venue’s operations or revoke its licence.
