A video capturing a dispute between taxi drivers and security personnel at the international arrival terminal of Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport went viral on social media.
Airport authorities stated that the incident, recorded on video, was related to passenger safety. Security personnel attempted to clear taxi drivers picking up passengers from the crosswalk, as their vehicles were blocking the path, obstructing pedestrians.
The General Director of the international airport, Ahmad Syaugi Shahab, apologized for the incident. “We always strive to prioritize the safety, security, and comfort of our service users,” he said.
The airport administration is also conducting an internal investigation and taking measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“In addition to the investigation, we are, of course, continuously assessing passenger traffic to facilitate travelers’ journeys, especially upon arrival at the airport. We seek support from all parties and hope that corrective actions will be implemented soon,” Syaugi said.
Shahab also confirmed that a special counter for greeters will be installed near the main entrance of the arrival hall. This will help those who have arranged pickups find their driver, and those looking for transport can book a ride more conveniently. He added, “Following the meeting, we and our business partners inspected the area where the counter will be located.”
Indonesian Transportation Society representative Made Rai Ridarta also expressed regret over the incident. He mentioned that improvement works are currently underway in the airport, including in the vehicle area. The measures include organizing parking spaces, adjusting traffic flow, and other key infrastructure elements to create a smooth, efficient, and quick process for meeting and dropping off passengers upon arrival.
