Berawa Rescuers Show Mid-Air Helicopter Evacuation

The Class A office of the Indonesian National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) in Denpasar conducted exercises at Berawa Beach in the North Kuta area with a helicopter that can lift people with a winch without landing. This is the first such training in Bali.

The goal is to reduce response times in emergency situations. A helicopter with a winch allows a rescuer to be lowered directly to the victim and lift the person on board, even if there is no landing pad nearby, such as on a narrow stretch of shore, near cliffs, or in hard-to-reach areas.
The exercises used a Bell 412 helicopter. Basarnas also reported that they would train rescuers with a separate qualification for such operations, and the helicopter might eventually be assigned for duty in the Bali province.
The project is funded and supported by Finns Beach Club. The operation of the aircraft will be handled by Sayap Garuda Indah (SGI), a Bali-based organization involved in rescue missions on land and sea.
