Balinese Royal Families Urge Clear Timeline for Northern Airport

A group of 13 representatives from Balinese princely houses publicly addressed Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. They demanded specific timelines and confirmation that the "Northern Bali International Airport" project is truly moving from plans to real actions.

The reason is the gap between the airport's mention in planning documents and the project's actual progress. The Balinese aristocracy refers to Presidential Regulation No. 12/2025 on planning for the years 2025–2029, which includes the development of the new airport, and demands turning these proposals into actions, primarily by setting timelines and proceeding to a groundbreaking ceremony.
According to them, the north of Bali chronically lacks development. About 87% of the gross regional product is generated by the south (Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar), while the north contributes about 8%.
Meanwhile, provincial authorities have previously emphasized that merely including the project in planning does not mean the site has been approved and construction can begin.
Standard procedures are needed before building, such as a feasibility study and compliance with aviation requirements, along with formal decisions on the location and parameters. Therefore, even with political support, the project can remain in the planning stages.
