From June 1 to 7, 2025, the 18th Balinale International Film Festival will be held at the Icon Mall in Sanur, Bali. Organizers expect between 6,000 and 8,000 visitors — more than last year when the festival attracted 5,600 guests over a week.

The Balinale International Film Festival was founded in 2007 by the Bali Taksu Foundation. Its mission is to give foreign filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their work, explore Indonesian culture, and possibly find inspiration for future projects.
The festival also actively supports local filmmakers, giving them a chance to step onto the international stage and establish connections with overseas colleagues. Great emphasis is placed on education: free workshops and seminars are regularly held for students and young talents.
As the festival's founder and director Deborah Gabinetti explained, the program will include about 60 carefully selected films — short films and documentaries. The main selection criteria are the storyline, concept, artistic quality, and emotional impact on the audience.
“We consider each film. It's important that the chosen movies can inspire people and provide new knowledge,” emphasized Deborah.
The official list of films will be published on May 10, 2025. Currently, 1,500 submissions from 35 countries have been received for selection. One of the participation requirements is special attention to Indonesia and, specifically, Bali.

Deborah notes that Balinale has a significant impact not only on the cultural sphere but also on the region's economy: the festival increases tourist traffic and supports related industries. A prime example is the effect of the film “Eat Pray Love,” which, since 2010, has continued to inspire people to visit Bali.
Made Artana, advisor to the Governor of Bali on creative economy matters, emphasized that the festival plays an important role in the island's economic transformation, helping to develop creative and digital industries alongside tourism. He also expressed hope that such initiatives will contribute to the growth of the local film industry.
