Bali’s immigration authorities detained 62 foreigners during Operation “Dharma Dewata Patrol”. Checks were carried out from 15 April to 4 May in the areas covered by the Ngurah Rai, Denpasar and Singaraja immigration offices.

The raids were carried out in places where violations are most often recorded. Officers checked for overstayed visas, illegal work, false information in visa applications, involvement in dubious investment schemes, and other offences.
All those detained are now undergoing additional checks. They are being held in temporary holding facilities at local immigration offices. Their passports have been seized.
The main provision cited by immigration is Article 75(1) of the Immigration Law. It applies to foreigners who break the rules, do not maintain public order, or may pose a security threat. Currently, 39 of the 62 detainees are being processed under this article.
If no criminal offence is found in the detainees’ actions, they will be deported. If the checks show signs of a criminal violation, immigration will pass the case materials to the police. After deportation, foreigners may also be barred from re-entering Indonesia.
The nationality of most of those detained has not been disclosed. Bali’s head of immigration, Felucia Sengki Ratna, said this is due to the “sensitive nature” of issues involving other countries.
