The Bali government is currently carrying out renovation work on Candidasa Beach in Karangasem, a destination long favored by numerous affordable hotels. However, the ongoing construction is significantly disrupting tourists’ relaxation, and the work is expected to continue until the end of 2026.

Noisy trucks and heavy machinery, placing large boulders to prevent erosion, are affecting the comfort of visitors. Since the project began, many tourists have shortened their stays or even canceled their trips to the area.
The silver lining is that once completed in 2027, the newly improved beach is expected to attract even more tourists. Visitors will be able to enjoy breathtaking sunsets, stroll along a scenic promenade, and experience better beach access.
The work began at Banjar Karanyar Beach and is gradually moving eastward toward the beach in front of Puri Bagus Candidasa Hotel. Previously, the shoreline had little to no sandy area, but after the renovation, a proper stretch of sand is expected to emerge.
The project is funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with a budget of 500 billion IDR. The renovation will cover a five-kilometer stretch of coastline.
If you are sensitive to construction noise and are planning a trip to Candidasa Beach, keep this project in mind. The sound of heavy trucks may not be the most inviting for a peaceful getaway. It might be worth postponing your stay at one of the beachfront hotels until 2027, when the work is completed.
