Starting August 6, Indonesia's low-cost carrier AirAsia is offering bookings for direct flights from Bali to Hong Kong and Jakarta to Hong Kong. The Bali flights will commence on October 1, while the Jakarta flights will begin on October 8. The flights, which will take approximately 5 hours, will operate once daily.
According to Veranita Yosephine Sinaga, President of AirAsia Indonesia, the company continues to take strategic steps to ensure passengers can reach their favorite destinations with convenient and affordable direct flights.
"With the launch of the Bali-Hong Kong and Jakarta-Hong Kong routes, AirAsia further strengthens its position as an airline with extensive connectivity, covering not only ASEAN countries and Australia but also mainland China," she said.
According to the Central Statistics Agency, from January to June 2024, the number of foreign tourists arriving in Bali from Hong Kong reached 13,673 people.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board reported that the number of tourists from Indonesia who visited Hong Kong in 2023 increased by 252,432 people, compared to 2022 when the Chinese city was visited by 7,480 people. However, this increase is likely due to COVID-19 restrictions, and the real statistics will only be clear this year.
"The number of foreign tourists visiting both countries is expected to increase even further with the addition of AirAsia's direct flights from Jakarta and Bali to Hong Kong," Veranita added.
