Dreamland is the only true beach break on the Bukit. Sandy bottom in the lineup, with reef and rocks only right by the shore. The spot doesn't work every day — you need a swell and a low tide. It's not for learning from scratch, you need a base. There are four breaks here: Outside Left (low tide, you can ride through to the inside), Inside Wave (close to shore, popular with the groms), A Frame (the best — opposite Kelapa resort, breaking both left and right) and a soft break between A Frame and Balangan (suits beginners at mid tide). Overall it's a mid-quality spot, but easy and relaxed.
The wave & conditions
The spot works on the dropping tide. The wave is softer than at the neighbouring reef breaks of the Bukit. A characteristic feature: you can take off on whitewash that builds up into a full wave. Closer to shore there's a powerful shorebreak; on a big swell a beginner won't get back through it to the beach. The right peak offers decent rights and lefts, but they're not long. On a big swell the wave barrels. A Frame starts working from head and a half, is best at double overhead; at triple overhead it breaks very powerfully. The spot overall doesn't hold a big size — past 6–8 ft the other sections start closing out.
Conditions & tips
There are often a lot of beginners in the water here. In the shorebreak zone near the shore there's reef rock and metal pipes (2–3 of them). There are pits in the reef on the bottom. Falling into one in a wipeout is extremely dangerous. The atmosphere is relaxed, the locals friendly.
Bikes at the Dreamland parking are regularly broken into and things stolen. Better to leave valuables in the warungs — they have lockers.
