Wing Air, a subsidiary of the Lion Air Group, has introduced three new daily flights connecting Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali with Lede Kalumbang Airport in Tambolaka (TMC) on Sumba Island.
Danang Mandala Prihantoro, Wings Air's communications manager, stated, "The Lion Air Group supports the development of the economy and tourism in Eastern Indonesia. Additional flights will make Tambolaka a more popular destination for domestic and international travelers."
Sumba has two airports: Tambolaka, the main one in the northwest, and Waingapu in the east. To explore the entire island, it’s best to arrive at one airport and depart from the other. The island covers an area of 11,150 km², which is twice the size of Bali. It stretches nearly 200 km, from the arid eastern regions to the green mountains in the west.
The flight from Bali (DPS) to Sumba (WGP airport) takes approximately 1 hour and 30-40 minutes. Two airlines operate flights from Bali to Sumba: Nam Air and Lion Air (formerly Wings Air). Ticket prices for the Denpasar – Tambolaka route start at approximately 883,829 IDR.
