What to do if you are fined by the traffic police in Bali?

What to do if you have been fined?
Lately, fines on the roads of Bali have become more frequent. You may be stopped for a violation, have your bike documents taken, and receive a colored ticket. And... what to do next? This is precisely what this ticket is about.
There are several tickets for traffic violations. Offenders are given either a blue or a red one. This type of ticket is called "surat tilang."
Green ones are intended for judicial archives, yellow ones for police archives, and white ones for prosecutor's archives.
A violator who admits the illegality of their actions can choose a blue ticket. It can be paid at the nearest bank branch. Immediately after that, you can go to the police officer who seized the registration documents for your vehicle and your license (if you had one) and get them back by presenting the payment receipt. The downside of this situation is that, in this case, the maximum fine amount for that violation will be collected from you.
A violator may request a red ticket if they refuse to acknowledge the police's accusation of a violation. In this case, the process will continue in court. During the court hearing, it will be decided whether the violation occurred after reviewing the police testimonies.
The date of the court hearing is determined by the police, usually within 5-10 working days after the violation. In court, you are not obliged to pay the maximum fine amount. The judge determines the fine amount. For less serious violations (without casualties), the actual fine usually corresponds to 20-40% of the maximum fine.
After paying the fine, you will get back all your documents.
It is not mandatory to attend the court hearing. Instead, you can come to the location after the court, at Kejaksaan Negeri Denpasar, which is the Denpasar Prosecutor's Office, and visit a special window facing the street on the left side of the building. There, you can submit your "surat tilang," pay the fine, and retrieve your documents.
When a violator is stopped, the police officer should courteously greet them, present their identification document, and explain to the driver the nature of the violation, which specific traffic law article was breached, and the amount payable as a fine.
On the "surat tilang" receipt, the police officer should write your name, age, date of the violation, court date, the violated article, and the fine amount.
If you receive a fine receipt, you can check the amount on the website http://www.etilang.info/. In the designated window, enter the registration number of your receipt, which is located at the bottom. If the number is valid, it will display the date of the violation, the vehicle type, number, and fine amount.
For fine payment, you can use Bank BRI ATMs, Bank BRI branches, or go to the court on the date specified on the receipt.
