An Italian couple, 49-year-old Zicari Giancarlo and 49-year-old Biaggi Ilaria, fell from a cliff near a waterfall in the Gajah Mas villa area in Tabanan. Zicari Giancarlo died on the spot, falling from a height of about 25 meters, while his girlfriend, Biaggi Ilaria, survived with multiple injuries. The incident occurred on Sunday at 11:20 am. The couple had left the Homm Saranam hotel, visited a local market, and then headed to the waterfall near the Gajah Mas villa.
After asking the security guard for directions, the Italians began their descent to the waterfall but stopped at a viewing platform with a beautiful view to take some selfies. The platform had a metal railing, which the tourists leaned on during the photoshoot. Suddenly, the railing gave way, and the foreigners lost their balance and fell down.
Despite her injuries, the woman remained conscious. Biaggi Ilaria started to climb back up to the Gajah Mas villa and met another tourist on the way, who helped her call for assistance. Paramedics arrived, evacuated Zicari from the fall site, and took him to a hospital in Tabanan, but the on-duty doctor had to declare that he could not be saved.
A day before this incident, at another Balinese waterfall, Blangsinga, tourists and locals were shocked by a body seen in the water. The corpse was identified as I Wayan Manku Mantra, 69 years old. He lived in the same area and had been reported missing. No signs of violence were found on the victim.
