The Kuta police detained two US citizens, 26-year-old Aabed Atia and his older brother, 30-year-old Zeyad Ahmed Atia.
According to law enforcement officials, the Americans beat up two local security guards at a rented villa in Seminyak after being reprimanded for loud music. Currently, the foreigners are in isolation awaiting legal proceedings.
The incident occurred on the night of April 22-23. Around 3 a.m., following complaints from neighbors, the villa's security guard at H20 in central Seminyak called the security guards. The first to arrive was Ay Made Suarsadana. He entered the house, where loud music was indeed playing, and demanded that the noise stop.
"After reprimanding the villa's occupants, the victim returned to the parking lot. However, the violators caught up with him and knocked him to the ground. The victim was beaten with fists and an iron rod," said a Kuta police representative. As a result of the attack, the security guard suffered a head injury, damage to his left cheek, and his right thigh.
At the same time, a group of local "banjar" members arrived at the scene. The members of the local community entered the villa to mediate.
A conflict erupted during which the Americans attacked Ketut Rai. He was cut on the neck, kicked, and struck several times in the face.
"In addition, he was hit on the forehead with a stick, resulting in a laceration," police said. After this, the second victim reported the incident to the Kuta police. The arriving officers arrested the foreigners.
"The cause of the foreigners' aggression was a reprimand from the victim and a demand to turn off the music. Currently, the two attackers are being held in pre-trial detention at the Kuta Police headquarters," said Denpasar Police Public Relations Department Head Ay Ketut Sukadi.
