Travel Light: Lion Air Group Unveils New Baggage Policy

Starting December 1, 2024, Lion Air Group (Lion Air, Batik Air, Super Air Jet, and Wings Air), Indonesia’s largest private airline, will implement new baggage rules.
These changes apply to both carry-on and checked luggage, aiming to simplify the handling and transportation of items.
Under the new rules, the free baggage allowance (FBA) will no longer cover cardboard boxes, foam containers, wooden pallets, or bags weighing over 10 kg if their dimensions exceed 35 × 35 × 30 cm. Items within these limits will be subject to a fixed fee for 5 kg. Larger or heavier items will be charged based on their actual size and weight.
If your baggage exceeds the specified dimensions, an additional fee will be applied at the check-in counter, or the items will be classified as excess baggage (EBT). Alternatively, you can ship oversized or heavy items via Lion Parcel Cargo Services or other agents. This option is convenient for sending bulky items in advance, avoiding airport hassles, and receiving them at your destination at a preferred time and place.
The changes aim to protect baggage from damage and dirt, ensure even weight distribution in cargo holds, and maintain cleanliness on board. Passengers will enjoy equal baggage rights, and the check-in and transport process will become faster and more efficient.
It’s also important to note that for cargo shipments, the volumetric weight calculation applies: 1 m³ is considered to weigh 166 kg. For example, baggage measuring 100 × 100 × 50 cm (0.5 m³) will be considered 83 kg, even if its actual weight is only 7 kg. The formula for calculation is:
length × width × height (in cm) ÷ 6000.
Plan your packing in advance and consider the new rules to avoid extra fees and delays during check-in.
