Lion Air Joins IATA: Now Officially on the Global Stage

One of the largest airlines in Indonesia and Southeast Asia — Lion Air — has joined IATA: now it is officially a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) on the international level. This was announced at the annual IATA meeting held in New Delhi, India.

Membership in IATA means that the airline commits to adhering to international standards of safety, service quality, and operational efficiency. In particular, Lion Air will undergo regular checks, including the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit).
By joining IATA, Lion Air gains access to a global aviation network comprising over 300 airlines that handle approximately 83% of international passenger traffic. This will open up new opportunities for collaboration with other carriers, including code sharing, and will facilitate entry into international markets.
Additionally, membership grants the right to participate in training programs, discounts on IATA products and services, and support in regulation and sustainable development.
Lion Air has become the third Indonesian airline to join IATA, alongside Garuda Indonesia and Batik Air. The subsidiary company Thai Lion Air, registered in Thailand, is also a member.
The CEO of Lion Air, Daniel Putut Kuncoro Adi, emphasized that this event will strengthen the airline's position on the international stage. He highlighted that participating in IATA will help enhance safety control, optimize staff training, and improve internal processes.

Lion Air was founded in 1999, is based in Jakarta, and operates flights across Indonesia and beyond. It is known for its low fares and extensive route network, including remote islands. Its fleet comprises hundreds of Boeing and Airbus aircraft.
Previously, the company was frequently criticized for delays and incidents in flight, but joining IATA marks a significant step towards enhancing trust and improving service quality.
