Local residents discovered a foreign woman sitting and crying on the sidewalk. She told them that her phone was stolen by two perpetrators while she was riding a motorbike. The thieves sped past her and snatched the device on the move. This incident occurred in the upscale tourist area of Seminyak, Bali.
"I was riding the motorcycle, and someone grabbed my phone. Two people, they stole my phone," the victim says in a video. The nationality of the victim and the model of the stolen device are not reported.
The video of the girl, who allegedly became a victim of the robbery, received widespread attention. The person who uploaded the video on social media tagged local activist Niluh Djelantik, a member of the regional representative council, to draw the authorities' attention to the incident. Social media users expressed concern that this incident might make foreign tourists feel uncomfortable and even deter them from visiting Bali.
"Currently, we are still searching for the suspect. So far, the victim has not filed a police report," said I Ketut Sukadi, head of the public relations department of Denpasar police.
Although Bali gives the impression of being a safe island, such incidents occur periodically, especially in tourist areas. It’s always good to stay vigilant. Standing with your phone near a busy road or mounting it in an insecure holder is not advisable. It’s better to store all valuable items in the trunk under the bike seat.
