Three Simple Rules to Save Your Bike and Nerves

If you rent a bike in Bali, you know how easy it is to get used to the freedom: the fresh breeze, palm trees along the roadside, warm evenings, and short rides to the beach or café. But all this ease can suddenly vanish if... you lose your key. Or worse — accidentally lock it inside the trunk.
To avoid ruining your vacation or everyday life on the island, remember some simple yet important things.
✅ Never hang your bike key on a chain with other keys.
If you lose the keychain, you risk being without your house, suitcase, and document drawer keys along with the bike. Plus, heavy key chains can damage the ignition lock. Keep the bike key separate—this small step could one day save you from significant stress.
✅ Check to see if the keys are left inside the trunk.
Bali scooters are often designed so that the seat automatically locks when closed. If the key is left inside, access is denied. 🔧 Calling a locksmith or breaking the lock is costly and not quick. Before closing the seat, just check: is the key in your hand? You're good to go.
✅(Bonus) Make a duplicate key and keep it at home.
Especially if you're renting a bike long-term or living on the island. One forgotten or lost key 🔑—and your entire schedule collapses. A spare is like insurance. It can be in your drawer, with a friend, or a trusted neighbor. One day, you'll be very glad you have it.
Traveling is not only about beaches 🏝️ and sunsets but also the small details that define how your day will be. A bike on the island is freedom. And the key to it (literally) deserves your attention.
