Glass Lift on Nusa Penida Faces Second Warning

The frame of a glass lift around 180 metres tall at Kelingking Beach (Nusa Penida) is still standing, even though the investor was given a deadline to dismantle it voluntarily. The provincial public order agency said the first official warning expires on 27 February 2026, and on the same day the company will be sent a second notice.

Earlier, Bali Governor Wayan Koster ordered the project to be halted and the structure to be dismantled within six months, counted from 23 November 2025. After dismantling, the investor must restore the area within three months.
If there is still no response after the second letter, the provincial government, together with its legal team, will prepare further steps under the relevant procedures.
There are many concerns about the project: possible breaches of land-use and construction rules (including restrictions near the cliff edge and in the coastal zone), questions about environmental documents, and missing mandatory approvals, including permits related to the use of coastal and marine areas.
Officials also separately mention the risk of "monopolising the view": if the site is completed and fully glazed, tourist flows could effectively be funnelled to viewing points tied to the investor’s infrastructure. The project also included a multi-level restaurant.
