Recent tests of Hyundai's large passenger drone, named Sky Taxi, took place at Pranoto Airport in Indonesian Kalimantan.
Previously, we reported on plans to establish an air taxi network using unmanned drones in Bali, and in addition to the helicopters already flying over the island, seaplanes might soon join the fleet. This suggests that the amount of aerial transportation could soon increase.
The test involved a copter designed to carry four passengers and one pilot, indicating that it is indeed a substantial machine. Sky Taxi flew at speeds up to 50 km/h, reaching an altitude of around 50 meters, and performed figure-eight maneuvers for 10 minutes before landing.
The tested Sky Taxi is unmanned and still undergoing refinement. The development of this technology will focus on reliability, compatibility with other transport systems and urban infrastructure, and cost-effectiveness.
In the next five years, we might see flying taxis in the skies over Bali. This will likely be accompanied by other advanced solutions, such as hydrogen-powered planes, which are also planned for launch on the island.
