Just recently, we reported that a giant reticulated python strangled and swallowed a woman in Sulawesi. While statistics show that python attacks on humans in Indonesia are extremely rare, another python has killed a woman in the same region within a month.
According to police, 36-year-old Siriati went missing after leaving home early in the morning to buy medicine for her sick child. When her absence became noticeable, her family started searching for her. Her husband, 30-year-old Adiansa, found her shoes and some clothing on the ground about 500 meters from their home in Siteba village. "Soon after, he spotted a snake lying about 10 meters from the path. The snake was alive," said local police chief adjutant Idul. Adiansa grew suspicious when he saw the snake's bulging belly. He called the villagers for help, and when they cut open the python, they found the missing woman's body inside.

Last year, residents of this province killed an eight-meter python that had eaten a farmer. In 2018, a 54-year-old woman was found dead inside a seven-meter python in Muna, Southeast Sulawesi. A year earlier, a farmer in West Sulawesi was swallowed by a four-meter python on an oil palm plantation.
If you are planning to visit Sulawesi, be aware that walking through the jungle can be dangerous.
