There are plans to build a desalination plant in Bali's Badung, where there is already a shortage of fresh water in the south. The technology used will be reverse osmosis, similar to the one on Gili Trawangan.

The Deputy Head of the Arjana District states clearly: previously, the south was supplied by rivers, but now the water doesn't reach the coast. The plant is primarily needed for the tourist areas in southern Badung.
They are seeking help from PT Tiara Cipta Nirwana, which manages desalination on Gili. Their facility is located near the sea and covers about 3.6 hectares. Badung wants to replicate this model without passing the cost onto the residents.
Land is the main issue. If the municipal water company Tirta Mangutama does not provide a plot, private land will have to be purchased, which is costly. Authorities are preparing a plan to gradually allocate or acquire state and public land for the project.
A Badung delegation already to observe the system in action. Next steps include agreements and launching the project in partnership with PT TCN.
