Indonesia's Ministry of Communications has promised to send specialists to Nusa Penida to check on the ground where the island has a weak signal or none at all.

Both residents and tourists complain about poor coverage. Local officials took these complaints to the ministry in Jakarta this week.
If the inspection confirms the problem, the ministry and the mobile operators will consider three options: realigning antennas on existing towers, installing signal boosters or, where there is no other way, building new towers.
The ministry also promised to support the single emergency number 112, which was launched in August and also covers the islands.
A day later, the delegation visited the Ministry of Tourism and asked for help for the island with roads, water, the power grid and waste processing. Nusa Penida built its waste processing site on its own, but the site lacks equipment, so the delegation asked Jakarta to provide it.

A separate request concerns neighbouring Lembongan. The authorities want the coastline by Jungutbatu Beach and the Devil's Tear area to be included in national improvement plans, with work in Jungutbatu starting in 2027.
The Ministry of Tourism promised to review the requests and decide whether to take them on in 2027.
