Renowned interior designer Jeffrey Wilkes, known for his work on luxury hotels and residences, and landscape specialist Bill Bensley, who has worked on projects such as Four Seasons Tented Camp Golden Triangle in Thailand, Capella Ubud in Bali, and InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort in Vietnam, are involved in the project.
The resort will be located 30 minutes from the international airport, close to popular tourist areas like Jimbaran, Uluwatu, and Nusa Dua. Design Lab will oversee the project to ensure that Mandarin Oriental Bali captures the essence of Balinese culture, highlighting its unique crafts and attention to detail.
The rooms and villas will feature terraces or private gardens, with most equipped with private pools. Additionally, the group is developing new residences comprising 68 private villas with 3 to 6 bedrooms on an 8-hectare site above the hotel. Owners of these residences will have access to an exclusive clubhouse with a lounge, co-working space, meeting rooms, family area, gym, and private pool, as well as all resort amenities.
In recent months, Bali's leaders and communities have discussed the need for better island planning and the feasibility of constructing new hotels in light of tourism demand. Mandarin Oriental is not the only investor: in May 2024, Anantara Group, in collaboration with Taryan Group, announced the Anantara Dragon Seseh Bali project. Initially, the project faced backlash due to concerns about its impact on traditional coastal communities. Taryan Group assured that they would consider the opinions of Balinese architects, authorities, and locals in the final version of the project.
