“We first want to hear the opinions of all stakeholders, ministries, and tourism experts to develop a plan for transforming our tourism industry,” the head of the department shared with journalists.
This 53-year-old woman has extensive experience in business and social sectors, particularly in energy and agribusiness. She received her education in the United States.
Vidyanti Putri Wardana promised to focus on human resources, creating jobs, especially for young people. According to her, educational programs are needed for this. The ministry will concentrate its efforts on six top-priority areas: Bali, Labuan Bajo, Borobudur, Mandalika, Lake Toba, and Likupang. Wardana believes tourism will become the driving force of the economy.
“We can achieve this because Indonesia is paradise on earth,” she declared.
Wardana’s deputy is Balinese native Ni Luh Puspa. The Bali Restaurant and Hotel Association supported the appointment, urging the new officials to carefully address tourism-related issues on the island and maintain an open dialogue with all stakeholders.
Experts say that Bali, where mass tourism is developing too quickly, is undergoing a critical period. Restrictions are needed for several projects, including hotel construction. Specialists believe this will benefit tourists, businesses, and the island’s unique nature. No specific date has been announced for the restrictions, as the new government has just begun its work.
Before Wardana, the position of Minister of Tourism was held by Sandiaga Uno. He is particularly remembered for successfully reviving Bali’s tourism after the pandemic. Upon leaving office, Uno called for accelerating the development of sustainable tourism on the island.
“We are currently focused on developing North Bali through a series of innovations, but we must ensure that Sanur and South Bali become high-quality tourist destinations… I trust this to the people working in the tourism and creative economy sectors in Bali,” the former minister said.
He also expressed support for President Prabowo Subianto and the new ministers of tourism and creative economy, the latter being Teuku Riefky. Uno wished his colleagues success in their work until 2029.
