During the ongoing Jagratara operation in November 2024, 687 foreigners were detained across 270 locations throughout Indonesia. The operation aims to ensure that all foreigners comply with immigration regulations.
In total, approximately 3,000 individuals have been detained this year across three phases of the operation, involving 50 immigration service units. The Surabaya Immigration Office achieved the highest results, detaining 92 foreign violators, followed by Batam with 64 detainees, and Tanjung Priok (Jakarta’s port) with 48 violators.
The types of violations varied, ranging from activities not in line with the issued visa or residence permit type to illegal entry and overstaying visas. Cases of illegal activities included prostitution, working as therapists or beauticians in salons, cooking, selling clothing and e-cigarettes, and serving as construction supervisors.
A 41-year-old Russian citizen identified as D.P. was deported from Bali on November 21, 2024, due to overstaying and failing to pay a hospital bill at Professor Ngoerah General Hospital in Denpasar (formerly Sanglah).
The man arrived in Bali on July 4, 2023, and his visa expired on September 1, 2023. From October 8 to November 8, 2024, he was hospitalized. After completing treatment, he failed to pay a bill of 33 million IDR, prompting the hospital to report the incident to the immigration service. The offender was placed in the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim), blacklisted from re-entering Indonesia, and subsequently deported to his home country.
A 23-year-old Indian citizen identified as V.B.M. was deported on November 22, 2024, after overstaying his visa by 91 days. He spent 66 days in the Denpasar detention center. Reports revealed that he failed to pay bills for villa rentals, motorcycle rentals, and even food at restaurants.
