How to travel if your passport is up for renewal?

While your visa is up for renewal, you'll have to live without a passport for about two weeks.

Does that mean you have to give up traveling and sit still all this time? Not at all. The main thing is to take care of a copy of the document in advance.

Before you hand over your passport for renewal, be sure to make a paper copy and take a photo on your phone. It is not necessary to notarize it.

A copy of the passport will be enough to check into hotels, travel to tourist places, even go to neighboring islands: Gili, Nusa Penida, Lombok, Java.

If you have to fly somewhere far away within Indonesia - Jakarta, Komodo, Sumba Island - then, as a rule, you can also use a copy of your passport for ticketing and boarding. But we recommend to clarify this point with the airline in advance, so that there are no surprises.

If you are traveling to some non-tourist places, it is better to wait until your passport is ready. Usually in such places they do not expect to meet tourists, so stricter rules may apply to foreigners.
