There have been plenty of viral videos from Bali lately, but this one is definitely a contender for the most beautiful. However, despite the aesthetics, another scandal is flaring up around it.

Early morning: the sun rises over the horizon, flooding the mountains with light while mist still lingers. You couldn’t dream up a better location for filming a music video on a paradise island—especially when you don’t have to pay for it. That, apparently, is what an unknown DJ thought, as he climbed up with a film crew to the most popular tourist Mount Batur.
In the video, which is now spreading across Balinese news pages, a foreigner can be seen enthusiastically playing a DJ set at the decks, standing on one of the ledges. A cameraman filming the DJ is also visible. A turntable and a white table were spotted on set. The clip’s protagonist is filmed from two angles. It doesn’t seem like anything criminal, but Bali’s Tourism Department staff didn’t appreciate the sound and have already launched an investigation.
According to local media, the foreigner was believed to be filming a music video. His actions sparked mixed reactions: some say the performance violates the purity of nature and its sacredness, while others in the comments under the video write that the footage is mesmerising and that the musician is promoting Bali’s beauty this way.
Either way, the head of the Bangli Regency Tourism Department, I Wayan Dirga Yusa, said the agency is still checking the authenticity of the viral clip. At this point, the exact time of the incident and the identity of the foreigner featured in the video have not been established.
“As for monitoring tourism activity and this viral video, we’re still collecting data. Safety on Mount Batur is handled by the Bali Natural Resources Conservation Agency,” Yusa said.
Are you looking forward to the video premiere? Or are you upset about disturbing the peace on Batur?
