A 40-year-old Russian citizen with the initials V. K. was detained in Bali. He caused a rampage at the Capri Italian restaurant in Kuta. Before the police intervened, the aggressor had visited the restaurant twice. The first time, wielding an axe in one hand and a knife in the other, the perpetrator smashed the bar counter, damaged the stairs, broke furniture, and locks. Then he fled. The police interviewed witnesses and reviewed CCTV footage.
Two days later, the vandal returned to the restaurant with an axe, a knife, and scissors, once again destroying private property. He did not attack any people, and there were no injuries. This time, V. K. did not manage to escape justice. With the assistance of local residents, officers from the criminal investigation department of the Kuta police detained the perpetrator and confiscated his weapons. During questioning, it was revealed that a broken heart was to blame. An Indonesian girl, whom he had feelings for, broke up with him. As a result, after drinking a bottle of unnamed alcohol, the Russian attacked the restaurant and several other places in the Kuta area.
"He admitted that he drank because he broke up with his local girlfriend who lives in Bali, but did not specify with whom exactly. We arrested him still suffering from the consequences of drunkenness and hunger," said the chief of police of the Kuta district, I Ketut Pasek Sudina, on Tuesday, March 5th. V. K. had no issues with the owner of the Capri restaurant; the establishment was chosen randomly. "He went berserk on the beach, waving an axe, throwing himself at the beach fences, in several different places, not just in the restaurant," added Pasek.
The police named V. K. as a suspect in cases of carrying cold weapons and damaging others' property. He has been charged under Law No. 12 and Article 406 of the Criminal Code. In total, he caused damages totaling approximately 10 million Indonesian rupiahs.
V. K. has been living in Bali, in Nusa Dua, for 6 years already and even speaks Indonesian. He is currently under arrest pending the completion of the investigation.
