Ahead of the New Year holidays, airlines often offer discounts on international flights. Citilink, for example, has launched the “Green Sale,” which will run until November 11.
Citilink is offering discounts of up to 20% exclusively for LinkMiles program members, special prices from partner banks, as well as free flight changes and cancellations under certain conditions.
Additionally, Citilink is presenting the Early Bird promotion, through which BRI Bank users can enjoy discounts of up to 500,000 IDR, LinkMiles bonuses of up to 6,000 miles, 5 kg of free checked baggage, and 10% cashback when redeeming miles. BRI customers can also purchase domestic flight tickets starting at 450,000 IDR.
Every day at certain times, Citilink will hold a Flight Sale promotion, where tickets for international routes can be purchased for just 10,000 IDR, with the option to redeem miles for 10% cashback and a bank discount of up to 1.1 million IDR.
Travelers can access the program through Citilink’s website or app. The promotion applies to travel dates from November 4, 2024, to March 31, 2025.
Despite still relatively high flight prices, Bali remains a popular travel destination, with even business and first-class seats being highly sought after. Garuda Indonesia’s Commercial Director Ade R. Susardi noted that seats in business and premium classes on flights to Bali are selling at unprecedented rates. Many flights sometimes cannot meet the demand for high-class seats. “This applies to both the 10-11 daily domestic flights and international routes to the Island of the Gods from Japan, Australia, and South Korea.”
The Indonesian government, in turn, is continuing efforts to reduce domestic airfares so that affordable travel across the country is available year-round.
With the recent commitments of State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir and his collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, company executives have assured that traveling throughout the Indonesian archipelago will soon become much cheaper.
The issue of domestic airfare costs was raised by former Tourism Minister Sandiaga Uno and Investment Minister Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan back in September. These commitments are being passed on to the new cabinet. Thohir explained that a new task force will be formed in the next one to two weeks to address this matter.
During the holiday season, Bali receives over a million foreign tourists and nearly as many domestic visitors. Most Indonesians travel to Bali by land and sea, arriving at the Gilimanuk port from East Java, which can contribute to holiday traffic congestion.
Lowering the prices of domestic air travel and easing access to Bali for domestic tourists is also likely to impact the volume of vehicles on the roads, as cheaper flights could lead many to opt for air travel over driving.
