An eco-friendly aviation workshop has begun operations at Bali’s international airport, utilizing sustainable technologies. This is not just a workshop but a massive hangar capable of servicing multiple aircraft simultaneously.
The initiative is the result of a collaboration between FL Technics Indonesia and Angkasa Pura Property. FL Technics is part of the global Avia Solutions Group, one of the largest aerospace companies in the world, employing over 12,000 people. Angkasa Pura Property is a subsidiary of Indonesia’s state-owned PT Angkasa Pura I, focused on real estate and commercial development within airports.
The implementation of eco-friendly technologies includes innovations such as the 8600 NG aircraft tug. This machine, powered by an electric motor, is used for precise aircraft towing and pushback. Its battery charges in just three hours and supports up to 30 aircraft movements, including Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 models, on a single charge.
The Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility spans 17,000 square meters and can service up to six narrow-body aircraft simultaneously, primarily Boeing and Airbus models. The hangar is designed to provide swift repairs for aircraft experiencing sudden technical issues, minimizing downtime and potentially reducing flight delays at the airport.
This is the first MRO facility at Bali’s airport. FL Technics Indonesia’s inaugural MRO center was established in 2016 at Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Jakarta, covering 20,000 square meters.
The new facility is poised to tap into the growing MRO market and position itself as a hub for the Asia-Pacific region and Australia, as many international airlines from this area operate flights to Bali or use the island for transit.
“Bali Airport is a hub for flights to Australia, Hong Kong, and other countries. This new MRO center is part of the aviation ecosystem Ngurah Rai Airport needs to meet the full spectrum of aviation demands,” said Ristiyanto Eko Wibowo, President Director of PT Angkasa Pura Property.
The presence of this MRO center will expedite aircraft maintenance processes, reduce dependence on foreign services, and positively impact airlines operating in Indonesia. Additionally, the workshop will benefit the local economy by creating jobs.
