If you were planning to film the scenery around Nusa Dua, hold off on launching your drone for now. Bali police have tightened control over the airspace in the area because of two international police events.
The areas under particular scrutiny are The Westin Nusa Dua and Merusaka Nusa Dua, their adjoining car parks and other nearby locations. Police are asking residents and tourists not to fly drones here without official permission.
The reason is the safety of the participants in the international forums. From 20 to 24 September, The Westin is hosting the 63rd conference of the International Association of Women Police (IAWP), attended by delegates from 43 countries. From 20 to 22 September, Merusaka is hosting a meeting of senior officers from the Indonesian National Police and the Australian Federal Police.
Airspace monitoring began on 21 September at 08:00. A dedicated anti-drone unit is tracking unmanned aircraft and using equipment to jam their signals.
Police are flying drones of their own, which are needed for continuous aerial surveillance of the situation. This monitoring will continue until the international events are over.
A total of 744 officers are responsible for security at the two forums. At the same time, police say the enhanced measures should not disrupt everyday life for residents or tourist activity in the area.
