Dengue fever continues to spread in Bali Province, with 1,460 cases recorded by the end of January 2025, according to the Bali Provincial Health Department. The highest number of infections has been reported in Buleleng, in the north of the island, with 416 cases.
Dr. I Gusti Ayu Raka Susanti, Head of Disease Prevention and Control at the Bali Health Department, stated that two of these cases have resulted in fatalities—one in Tabanan and one in Denpasar. Authorities are urging residents to stay vigilant and take proactive measures to prevent mosquito breeding. This includes not leaving stagnant water in outdoor containers, covering water storage areas, and keeping surroundings clean. Residents can also contact pest control services for preventive fumigation.
“During the rainy season, if you develop a fever, take an antipyretic (such as paracetamol) and seek medical attention immediately,” Susanti warned. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment can help reduce fatalities from dengue fever.
According to Bali Health Department data from 2024, there were 15,179 recorded cases last year, with 25 fatalities. Authorities strongly advise both residents and tourists to take extra precautions, especially during the rainy season, when the population of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, the primary carriers of the dengue virus, increases significantly.
In addition to mosquito control measures, dengue vaccinations are available at clinics across the island. While the fatality rate of the virus is relatively low, the illness itself can be severe and debilitating.
