A car accident occurred on Jalan Pecatu Graha opposite the Dream waterpark on Sunday around 17:00. Judging by the photos from the scene, a black Audi and a white Brio collided head-on. There were four French nationals in the Honda at the time of the accident.
Russian Evgeny Ivanov, allegedly responsible for the accident, has been arrested by the Bali police. The four French tourists and the Balinese driver in the Honda Brio were taken to the hospital. They suffered fractures, concussions, and bruises.
Mario Noël, 60, and François Claude, 57, were diagnosed with multiple abrasions and lacerations, while 34-year-old Sarah Anissa suffered a broken left leg, and 31-year-old Ke Antin Oliver sustained a head injury. They were all taken to Jimbaran hospital for treatment. Additionally, both legs of the local driver of the Brio, Franciscus Haekas, who was transporting the tourists, were injured. Meanwhile, the culprit of the accident, who could barely stand due to alcohol intoxication, did not have a scratch.
After interviewing the participants of the accident and numerous witnesses, the police concluded that it was the Audi driver who caused the collision by suddenly veering into the oncoming lane, where the Honda Brio was traveling at that moment.
"Based on the testimonies of witnesses and the inspection of the crime scene, there are serious grounds to suspect that the accident occurred because the Audi driver, Evgeny Ivanov, while attempting to navigate through the traffic jam of cars moving in the same direction, swerved into the oncoming lane. Moreover, he did so abruptly and swiftly, leaving the Honda Brio driver with no time to take evasive action to avoid the impact. It was also established that the Russian driver was in a state of severe alcohol intoxication," said Ketut Sukadi, the head of the Denpasar Police Public Relations Department.
"All the injured were evacuated to the Bali Jimbaran hospital. The Audi driver, Evgeny Ivanov, has been detained by the police. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been taken to the police impound lot. Their front parts are significantly damaged. The total material damage is estimated to be approximately 50 million Indonesian rupiahs," Sukadi added.
