India led the growth with 67,995 visits (+36.93% compared to May 2024), attributed to the wedding season when couples from the middle and upper classes are eager to choose Bali for their honeymoon, explained the head of the Bali Statistics Agency, Agus Gede Hendrayana.
Chinese tourists are also increasing: 42,949 visits in May (+35.20% from last year). Despite a slight decline compared to April, the Chinese market remains key: from January to May, 218,811 Chinese tourists arrived (+16.23% annually). In absolute figures for May, Australia is ahead (138,515 visits), followed by India, China, the United Kingdom (29,212), and France (28,080).
By region, Asia leads (183,112 visits), followed by Oceania (153,903), Europe (146,537), ASEAN (67,602), America (38,129), the Middle East (7,178), and Africa (5,752). The European market fell by 12.48% as many prefer nearby resorts in the summer, but the Asia-Pacific stream compensates for the seasonal drop.
From January to May, the island received 2,644,879 foreign guests, 10.56% more than the previous year. Across Indonesia, the figure for May reached 1.31 million (+14.01% annually).
Another trend: foreign guests are choosing to stay more frequently and for longer periods in unclassified hotels. In May, the average length of stay was 2.8 nights in "no-star" accommodations compared to 2.75 nights in certified ones. Among Indonesian tourists, the pattern is reversed: 1.92 and 2.38 nights, respectively. The popularity of more budget-friendly options is growing even among mid-range and high-end travelers, which supports the overall hotel capacity.
