Bali has decided to look for a more modern way of getting important rules across to tourists. According to the authorities, brochures and standard information events have not been enough — from now on, the rules for behaving in the island's conservation areas will be explained through social media.

The initiative came from the provincial government. According to Putu Sumardiana, head of Bali's Marine Affairs and Fisheries Agency, traditional ways of sharing information are not producing the results needed. He hopes that social media will help people better understand the rules of conduct, as well as their rights and responsibilities.
The campaign will cover conservation areas such as Nusa Penida and Tulamben. Creators will talk not only about how beautiful these places are, but also about the rules tourists need to follow.
Snorkelling and diving will get particular attention. Influencers will explain why it matters to pay the fees for visiting popular spots and where the money collected goes.
In Tulamben, preparations and a wide-reaching information campaign about the fee for entering the marine conservation area are currently under way. On Nusa Penida the amount has already been set: 100,000 rupiah for foreign tourists and 10,000 rupiah for domestic ones.
Another task for the bloggers will be to debunk false information circulating among tourists and local residents. The authorities expect social media to help bring the rules of conduct at places that matter to Bali to a wider audience.
