The province of Bali has once again been chosen as a model for national healthcare projects. Starting in October 2025, the introduction of the hexavalent vaccine for newborns will begin here—one injection that provides protection against six diseases.

Along with Bali, Yogyakarta and West Nusa Tenggara have also been designated as pilot regions. The vaccination will cover children born after July 9, 2025. The new vaccine protects against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, hepatitis B, polio, and Haemophilus influenza type B (Hib), replacing several separate vaccinations given at 2, 3, and 4 months of age.
Dr. Gede Nyoman Sebawa, Acting Head of the Buleleng District Health Department, explained that choosing Bali reflects trust in the local healthcare system: 'Bali is recognized as ready—in terms of infrastructure, staff qualification, and high vaccination coverage.' He noted that the new scheme is in response to parents' requests who were unhappy with the number of shots: now, just one is needed.
For healthcare workers, the vaccination process will also become simpler and faster: the program will be implemented in all public medical centers, clinics, and private midwife offices. In the Buleleng district, about 2,450 infants aged 2-3 months are planned to be vaccinated. Authorities aim to raise the full basic immunization rate to 95% and reduce the risk of dangerous infection outbreaks.
