Australian citizen Vanessa Louise Crimmins was sentenced to eight months in prison for stealing a laptop at Popular Deli supermarket in Tibubeneng Village, North Kuta, Badung on October 30, 2024.
The prosecutor stated that Crimmins stole two laptops belonging to local residents, Ni Nyoman Ari Purwaningsih and Ardi Nurcahyadi. "The court finds Vanessa Louise Crimmins guilty of violating Article 362 of the Criminal Code," explained prosecutor Lintang Jendro Rahmadita during a trial at the Denpasar District Court on February 6, 2025.

After the prosecutor read the charges, Crimmins wanted to present her defense through a translator. However, the judges decided to postpone the trial until next week to have her written defense translated into Indonesian.
As reported earlier, Vanessa, from Paddington, Australia, was shopping at the supermarket. While walking past the store, she saw a gray bag with Ari's laptop left on a chair in front of the supermarket.
"The defendant intended to take the bag. She immediately took it and brought it into the store," said Lintang.
After shopping, Vanessa saw another bag containing Ardi's laptop. She took that bag as well and brought both bags to her place in Tibubeneng.
Vanessa admitted to her actions, claiming that she was under the influence of pain medication.
