Tourist Hotspot Gili Trawangan Urges For A Hospital

The Indonesian People's Representative Council (DPR) is urging the Ministry of Health to build a hospital on Gili Trawangan. Currently, all three islands — Trawangan, Air, and Meno — lack comprehensive medical facilities.
"There is still no hospital on Gili, although it is a world-class tourist destination. We hope the Ministry of Health will soon build a decent hospital at least on Trawangan," said council member Muazzim Akbar.
According to him, residents of the three islands have long complained about the lack of access to basic medical care. Currently, only small private clinics operate on Gili, and there is no primary healthcare center at all.
"In Sanur, a world-class hospital was successfully established. Why not do the same on Gili Trawangan? It is also an important tourist region. We demand the government not limit itself to Bali," the politician added.
He noted that in case of emergencies, such as childbirth, residents have to be transported to Lombok to reach the nearest hospital in the Tanjung area.
Muazzim emphasized that medical infrastructure is necessary not only for tourists but also for the local population living and working on the three Gilis. He promised to work with colleagues to gain attention from the central government.
"We will continue to raise this issue and engage in ongoing dialogue with the ministries," he assured.
