Located in eastern Java, the Tumpak Sewu waterfall is perhaps the most spectacular of all the waterfalls in Indonesia. It stands at a height of 120 meters.
Strictly speaking, this is not a single waterfall, but a multitude of water streams, crashing down from rock formations covered in dense vegetation. The waterfall is so enormous that it's hard for the human eye to fully appreciate its scale.
Along the way to the waterfall, there are many viewing platforms that allow you to admire it from different perspectives.
The path to the foot of the waterfall is quite challenging and requires physical fitness, as you will have to descend narrow trails, use ropes, and cross slippery sections. However, this path is rewarded: at the foot of the waterfall, you will be surrounded by dense greenery and able to experience the power of the water up close.
The best time to visit Tumpak Sewu is now, before the rainy season starts!
It is best to combine a trek to Tumpak Sewu with a visit to Mount Bromo as it will be right along your route.
